Windows vista was slightly different, the key was stored in HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Registration.

The only problem I have is that the PID Key is blank, and Product ID has a value.

Hi, I tried that method, delete VC80’s folder, except 3 of them I was unable to delete them ’cause Windows XP won’t let me delete the file msvcm80.dll that is repeated in all 3 folders, I still cannot installed .Net Framework 2, 3 nor 3.5. The only method I didn’t try is the COMPLUS thin because I DON’T EVEN NOW WHAT THE HELL IS THAT. Is someone nicely could help please drop me a line to edoardosez@gmail.com

I’m having the worst time ever trying to install .net framework 2.0. The drive with XP embedded is only 500Mb and after a clean install, deleting all unusual fonts, all .wav files, all non-standard cursors, moving the Windows\Temp directory to an external drive, moving non-critical (aka windows\installer) system files to an external and then trying the install I squeaked under the required disk space barrier and I get this error. Deleting the policy folder did not work, neither did any of the stuff on the linked page. This is killing me.
