Google on Why PageRank Drop
Are you a victim of recent Google campaign to update Pagerank?
Loren Baker, the editor for SearchEngineJournal has confirmed that Google has emailed them regarding the PageRank (PR) update that caused many blogs have their PR dropped.
Matt Cutt, the key person in Google that heads the search engine optimization group confirmed that the PR dropped was to punish web publisher who sells links to other sites.
Many sites are affected by the updates; including:
- ProBlogger - from PR6 to PR4 Updated:(back to PR6; thanks pablopabla)
- Engadget - from PR7 to PR5
- JohnChow - from PR6 to PR4
- and etc.
Our local blogs are not spared too.
Are you website affected? Do you really bother about it anyway?

Some of my sites which I didn’t sell any links were punished severely. From a 4 to a 1.
Since I’m not monetising the sites, it didn’t really bother me except knowing that Google screws up sometime.
Want proof? Youtube’s PR dropped from 8 to a 3. But today, Google gave it back its 8.

Actually, I was PR 4 to PR 2 and then, back to PR 3.
But my personal blog was PR 5 down to PR 2. Heh, something to be proud of cos not every one get to lose 3 ranks at one go. LOL. In total, I lost two notches in like 7 blogs but I gained some PR on three new ones.

I got a PR3 for my one month++ blog. IMHO, this only impacts problogger who make a living on blogging. For me, since I only blog for fun, whether it is PR0 or PRX has no different for me.
