How to Monitor Web Availability Status
Is your web site running now? Or has it been down for the past 5 hours?
Ensuring weblog service availability is crucial to anyone who owns a piece of Internet, be it an e-commerce site or personal blog because web site downtime also means losing visitors and potential clients (read:money). Thus, every time whenever your web site is inaccessible, it also means you are losing potential income from ads, sales or merely getting your messages to them.
Almost 99%, if not all, of all web hosting providers claimed that their web servers uptime are 99.9%. How would you know their claims are true? Assuming that their claims are real, when the downtime of 0.1% actually happens, how would you know? The fact is, unfortunately, we don’t.

Currently monitoring more than 70,000 web sites, Siteuptime , is a web service that monitors your weblog service availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Instead of doing it yourself, you can now have an alert email whenever your site is not available.
How It Works
Once you registered an account with them, you then set how often your website should be checked from every 2 minutes to every 60 minutes. Then you select which location will be used to check your web site. Locations available at this point of time are :
- San Francisco, USA
- Chicago, USA
- New York, USA
- London, UK
If the selected location is unavailable, it will automatically use another location to perform the test. After each check, the result will be sent to you mailbox. By the way, you can even share the report generated online. Sample online report shown below.
Which Plans Suit You
There are 3 plans available. View screen shot below (from www.siteuptime.com ) :

- Free plan at $0 cost. For more info, click here. (open new window)
- Premium plan at $5 monthly. For more info, click here. (open new window)
- Advanced plan at $10 monthly. For more info, click here. (open new window)
For starter or you just started blogging, start off with Free Plan. After all it’s free! However, it offers 1 site for monitoring but with less features compared to the other plans.
If you are managing multiple web sites or blogs, and your sites availability is very important for you or your clients, then opt for Premium or Advanced Plan. Moreover, these 2 plans offer shorter interval to perform the test.
All these features available can be further customized to suit your needs, with a minimal fee, of course. You can add more sites for monitoring and have a shorter interval to check your web site.
What’s Missing?
The first thing I notice about this service is the limited locations available for testing. 3 out of 4 sites are located in US and 1 in UK. What about other parts of the world? If you are not targeting any visitors from US and UK, I don’t see how effective is this service for you. Perhaps, someone who has been using this service can share their experience with us.
